Boilers account for around 60% of all domestic carbon dioxide emissions.
But the good news is that modern boilers are significantly more efficient than older ones and consequently are much more planet-friendly due to their reduced carbon emissions.
High efficiency condensing boilers are the most efficient available as they waste the least amount of energy. As of April 2005 onwards, new gas boilers must be A-rated condensing ones. However, if your boiler is more than 5 years old the chances are it’s very inefficient.
If you buy a new boiler you’ll save money on your bills and reduce your climate change impact. The following are recommended manufacturers of A-rated efficient boilers.
- Alpha Boilers
- Baxi Potterton
- Johnson and Starley
- Worcester Bosch
- ATAG Heating
- Ideal Boilers
All of these manufacturers produce A-rated condensing boilers which have been awared the Energy Saving Recommended label by the Energy Saving Trust.
A-rated means that they have a tested efficiency of 90% or more.
